Shatavari/Asparagus

Tamil name-Thanneervittan kizhangu
Common name-shatavari,shatamul
Botanical name-Asparagus racemosus

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is perhaps the most important herb for women in the Ayurvedic herbal medicine.. This medicine is generally called “a woman with one thousand husbands,” hinting at the traditional use of this herb to support female reproductive system. Shatavari has long been used to support women at the end of menses by encouraging circulation, as well as healthy nervous system and hormonal function.
The roots are used in Ayurvedic medicine (after harvested washed, dried and powdered) this powder usually used in general health tonic and it improves breast milk too)

Three years back one day I found  wild Asparagus plant with seeds( palamaner via gudiyattam) I can’t believe my eyes .. Immediately I plucked few seeds and stored, after I came here, sowed these seeds (approximately 10 but it’s germinated only 2)

Garden to plate

Asparagus soup

I used just 2 spears for garnishing(got total 5 spears)

Salad

Those beautiful rainy days ….

It is growing slowly with very attractive feathery leaves without caring..

After 2 years (1st plant)
The roots harvested …

And replanting the second one

After one more year (oct -17) small buds and flowers appearing from the vine..

The very next month small green fruits peeping out (nov-17)

Finally turned green to red berries (periods between dec-jan)
collecting the fruits...

The third year and finally Asparagus arrived!(got 5 Asparagus spears)

Again these seeds germinated!!!
